Overview: Make Compressed Air and Gas Consumption Visible
Compressed air and industrial gas systems are often high-cost utilities, but many sites do not have enough flow visibility. Without continuous flow measurement, leakage, wastage, abnormal demand and inefficient compressor operation can remain hidden.
TMF2X provides a practical way to monitor gas mass flow continuously. It is suitable for compressed air lines, gas distribution headers, process gas systems, nitrogen, oxygen, argon, biogas and other compatible industrial gases, except acetylene.
Key positioning
TMF2X is best positioned as an industrial thermal mass flow meter for compressed air monitoring, gas utility visibility, leakage detection, plant utility metering and IoTWatt 4.0 compressed air analytics.
How TMF2X Supports IoTWatt 4.0 Compressed Air Analytics
IoTWatt 4.0 can combine compressor electrical data with TMF2X air flow data to evaluate compressed air performance, leakage behaviour and operating efficiency.

How TMF2X Measures Flow
TMF2X uses a constant temperature differential method to measure gas mass flow. Two platinum resistance temperature sensors are used. One sensor measures the actual gas temperature, while the second sensor is heated and maintained at a fixed temperature difference above the gas temperature.
As gas flows across the heated sensor, heat is removed from the sensor. The higher the gas velocity, the stronger the cooling effect. The meter measures the heater power required to maintain the temperature difference.
Measurement principle
The heater power required to maintain the temperature difference is directly related to gas mass flow rate, allowing TMF2X to measure gas mass flow without separate pressure or temperature compensation.

Compressed Air Monitoring Value
Compressed air is one of the most expensive utilities in many factories. Without flow measurement, it is difficult to separate normal demand from leakage, artificial demand, poor operating control or inefficient compressor performance.
Monitoring Area

Practical outcome
TMF2X gives IoTWatt 4.0 the air flow data needed to move from “compressor kWh only” to real compressed air efficiency analysis.
Flow Range and Sizing
TMF2X supports a broad pipe size range from DN15 to DN300mm, with standard and extended flow range options depending on application requirements.
For correct sizing, the pipe size, gas type, operating pressure, operating temperature, minimum flow, normal flow and maximum expected flow should be reviewed during product selection.
Selection note
For compressed air and gas monitoring projects, the flow meter should be selected based on real operating conditions, not only pipe size. Oversized or undersized flow meters may reduce measurement usefulness.
